A LOVE LETTER TO MUSIC
Nopia is a semi-modular harmony generator with an onboard sound engine and full MIDI connectivity.
It’s designed around the theoretical principle of perceiving chords as degrees, something that our ears already sort of perceive quite naturally.
The Chord Builder, Tonal Selector and Extensions dial let you navigate through chord progressions.
These can be sonically manifested through the sound modules: Keys, Bass, Arp and Pad. They all feed into a master effects chain and Looper!
We uploaded a video showing our first prototype for an instrument design contest and something very unexpected happened! We weren’t the only ones wanting Nopia to exist.
Since then we’ve been transforming it from the idea we demoed into something that can live in your studio.
So many threads, disciplines, timezones, crossing and converging.
Industrial design, electronics, firmware, prototyping — an orchestration that keeps teaching us patience. Shortcuts don´t exist when you want to build something that truly matters. We’re almost there.

Is it easy to play?

Why only one octave?
Each key in Nopia is not a single note but a chord, which then unfolds into variations by using knobs and switches. This octave encompasses the entire chromatic scale, allowing you to play not only sounds from the 7 note diatonic scale but also some more far out chords known as secondary dominants and modal interchange - in music theory lingo.
But do I have to ‘know’ theory?
You don't need to know theory to play around with Nopia. We encourage you to compose, improvise, and have more tools to weave harmony, and train your perception! Of course, if you're familiar with functional harmony, we think you’ll get a lot out of it.

How much will it cost?
Super Early Bird tier will be opening at $650 (before taxes and shipping). We tried as much as possible to hit the sweet spot between premium build while being an accessible instrument for music lovers :)
